Happy New Year of the Rat! 鼠年大吉!

On the morning of February 1, 2020, NWCA parents, students, and staff gathered at Portland's Lan Su Chinese Garden for our first public performance of the year in celebration of Chinese New Year. It was a rainy morning, but that did not stop our preschool, prekindergarten, kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 5 students from giving their best performance for the audience.

The group quickly rushed to Washington Square, a shopping mall, for our second performance in the afternoon.  For their Chinese New Year celebration, we repeated our performances from Lan Su Garden  First, our 5th graders introduced each group's performance both in Mandarin and English.  Then, preschool and prekindergarten classes presented their songs and dances supported by Donna Laoshi. Kindergarten showed off their Kung Fu skills taught by Tu Laoshi, and kindergarten and Grade 1 sang "Rat-a-tat" taught by Lower English Specialist Ms. B. Finally, our 5th graders recited multi-voice poetry in English. Each performance ended with the whole group singing the song "Happy New Year" in Chinese to the crowd.

We are so proud of our students and teachers. Thank you so much to the families that supported us so that we could successfully pull off two performances in one day! Thank you Lan Su Chinese Garden and Washington Square for having us. We look forward to next year!
